If you thought the housing market in Montana was cooling off, I've got some bad news for you.

Not only are prices soaring all over the Treasure State, we've also got some of the highest median prices for homes in America.

Can You Blame Montana Residents For Selling?

As you can see from the graph above, Montana currently has the 5th highest median prices for housing in July.

When the average median income of Montana residents is only $45,690, I don't think most regular Montanans are buying those types of houses.

I honestly don't think we can blame home owners for selling to out-of-state buyers willing to come in and overpay. Take the money and run as they say.

On the flip side of that coin, there are plenty of longtime Montana residents who see themselves being priced out of their state and believe we should only sell to other Montanans.

My house has doubled in value over the last decade I've owned it, and for one brief second I thought of taking advantage of it, until I remembered that if my house doubled then so did everyone else's, and I'd have to pay double to get the same house, making it not worth it.

It's not just my house that has doubles either. You'll see in the gallery below some places where housing has grown over 100% over the past 5 years.
