The History Of Hutterites In Montana
The founder of the Hutterites was a man named Jakob Hutter, who oversaw the first commune to be established in 1528.
It wasn't until the late 1800s that they migrated to America and Canada, with almost all of them living in Western Canada and the upper Great Plains of the United States.
Today it is estimated that their population totals around 50,000, but of those 50,000, how many are living under the Big Sky?

Montana Has One Of The Largest Hutterite Populations In America
It's actually kind of hard to lock down just how many colonies are in Montana.
I've found reports saying there were only 39 colonies in 2012, but the Montana Office of Public Instruction in 2010 said there were approximately 50 colonies in Montana.
Then I found a website that looks to be a directory of all Hutterite colonies, and they say there are 64 colonies in Montana, but I don't know when this was last updated, so it too could be wrong.
According to the U.S. Religious Census, as of 2020, Montana has an estimated Hutterite population of 5,498, which puts them second behind only South Dakota, which has a population of 7,567.
