I'm one of those people that wasn't born here, and I'm almost in the majority, that's according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Does It Matter If You Were Born Here?
When it comes to the population of native-born vs. transplants, I don't think you can say it's the recent influx of new residents either, as people have been moving here for years, as this article from 1992 proves.
I moved here almost 25 years ago and realized I never wanted to leave. Some of the best people I've ever known in my life I met here, including my wife.
I also wonder what matters more—if you were born here or if you acclimate yourself to the values of the state?

How Many People Were Born In Montana?
I'd argue most people don't have an issue with transplants; just look at some of our recently elected politicians, both locally and nationally.
I think what angers most Montanans is when those that move here try and make Montana what they left behind.
When it comes to people born here vs. people moving here, it's almost a 50/50 split, as 51% were born here, while 49% moved here.
