I've lived in Montana since 2000 and I didn't realize this was illegal for years until just recently.

Apparently neither did anyone else until Alan Doane asked the same question I did.

He was a member of the Montana House Of Representatives from 2013 until 2021.

According to Alan, it was a police officer who alerted him to the illegality of warming up your car.

So he set out to change it, and in 2017 it became legal for you to warm your car up during our brutal Montana winters.
