STIHL Backpack Blowers Recalled – Do You Have One?
With fall in full swing here in Montana, many people are turning their attention to dealing with the leaves falling from the trees. Which means people are breaking out the leaf blowers, making this a very timely announcement.
STIHL has recalled roughly 48,000 backpack blowers due to a safety hazard.
What kind of safety hazard are we talking?
A laceration hazard. According to the recall, the fan wheel inside the backpack part of the device can break into little pieces, potentially sending bits flying and injuring the wearer and others.
Yikes! What do I need to look out for?
The recall is fairly specific. What's being recalled are STIHL BR 800 Magnum blowers, X or CE models. If that isn't your leaf blower, you're good to go (at least for this recall).
Also, according to STIHL, all the blowers covered by this recall were sold between May and September 2025. So if you haven't bought a new blower this year, you're not part of the recall.
So if you do meet those criteria, check the serial number. It's located on the backpack part near where the blower tube (the part you control and point the air stream at things with) connects to it. A picture of where to look can be found on the website for the recall, linked above.
If the serial number is between 546515117 to 547916107, you have one of the recalled models.
What do I do if I have one of the recalled models?
First off, stop using it.
Second, take it to a STIHL authorized/approved dealer to get the fan wheel replaced. Once that's done, you're back in business.
