Who's travelling for Thanksgiving?  Are you the one heading somewhere or is your place the destination?

If you watch the news, every major holiday, you see the same basic stories.  Major connecting airports are jam-packed with people, flights are overbooked and crazy expensive and everyone's hoping there isn't a delay.

Well, some people have decided to avoid the airlines entirely.  According to a survey conducted by the RV Industry Association, more Americans are opting to use an RV for their holiday travel this season.

Honestly, I can understand.  Like I noted earlier, the major airports are a madhouse during the holidays, and it's likely to be even worse this year with the after effects of the recent government shutdown.

I'm certainly not going to blame people for deciding to avoid that hassle altogether.  It might not be the fastest way to travel, but you are avoiding the airline issues.  Just keep in mind, you're trading airline hassles for road trip headaches.

Plus, using an RV solves the logistical question of 'Where are we going to sleep?'  In the survey, about half of the participants said they plan to sleep in said RV at their holiday destination.  4 out of 10 who own an RV but aren't traveling said their RV will see use as a guest house for visitors.

However you're traveling for the holidays, be safe and remember that movies like Planes, Trains and Automobiles are the kinds of holiday travel experiences you want to avoid.  It's not nearly as funny when it's happening to you in real life.
