Over the weekend, a long-time friend of mine made his way to Great Falls for a quick visit.

Even being born and raised in Montana, he's only been to Great Falls once or twice.

While he was in town, we made it a point to check out a few of the highlights in Great Falls, and while doing so, I thought about how Great Falls compares to other cities in Montana.

About Great Falls, Montana

I think Great Falls is a bit of a hidden gem here in Montana.

I was born and raised in Billings, but I decided to move to Great Falls when I moved back to Montana seven years ago, and I have loved every minute of it.

Sure, Great Falls has its challenges, but this town has many assets overall!

Here are a few things to think about that set Great Falls apart.

  • We're located right along the mighty Missouri River.
  • We're within 45 minutes of multiple mountain ranges.
  • There are epic outdoor activities just a stone's throw from town.
  • We have a fantastic trail system!
  • We have 13 museums in town.
  • Great Falls remains one of the most reasonable places to live in Montana.

Now, I can go on and on about all the assets here in Great Falls and why I love this town.

Great Falls Compared To Other Montana Cities

If you've read this far in the article, you might think there's more to do in places like Bozeman, Missoula, or Billings.

My response would be that it all depends on what you like doing.

If you like having more restaurants, shopping, and a more city-like lifestyle, then yes, you're right.

But to me, Great Falls is still very Montana.

Most other major cities in the Treasure State have changed significantly, but Great Falls remains similar to how I remember Montana growing up.
