The Coldest Day Ever Recorded in Montana’s History
If you've lived in Montana for some time, there's a good chance that you're not phased by the cold weather. For longtime Montana natives, it's simply the way of life - "it is what it is" if you will.
But, even if you've lived in Montana for an extended period of time, you'd have to admit that some temperatures are just downright unbearable.
The Coldest Day Ever Recorded In Montana
I have to admit, as someone who has spent 86.84% of his life in South Texas (yes, I did the math), the idea of subzero temperatures sounds a little intimidating. Can I survive it? Of course! Will everything be fine? It absolutely will!

But that doesn't change the fact that this warm-blooded individual will have to "adjust" to Montana winters. What seems to be normal to everyone else just sounds like something out of a sci-fi book to me so you can imagine my reaction when I learned about the coldest day in Montana's state history.
According to the University of Montana, this record was reached at a "mining camp near the Continental Divide a short distance from Rogers Pass near Helena." It is said that one of the National Weather Service's observers noticed the temperature had plummeted to a bone-chilling seventy degrees below zero on January 20, 1954.
What Happens To The Human Body At 70 Below Zero?
It shouldn't have to be said that being out in seventy below without proper attire is a bad idea but here we are! According to the CDC, if someone hung out at this particular temperature, that person would likely get hypothermia, frostbite, and several other problems... even if you were layered up.

Now, it's not likely that we'll beat that record here in Great Falls anytime soon, but you can bet we'll be bundled up the second it gets "cold."
