In what can only be described like something out of a movie, the Columbia Falls Police Department in Montana were recently called to a disturbance at a residence that involved both a firearm and a sword.

Columbia Falls Man Charged after Scary Incident with Sword

In a press release through social media, the police department received a call for a disturbance with a weapon within the city limits of Columbia Falls on February 21, 2026.  Upon arrival, officers determined an assault had taken place with a sword and firearm at the residence.

According to the report, "two victims were able to self-evacuate, uninjured, leaving the 54-year-old male suspect in the home alone".  The suspect refused to leave the home, despite several attempts by law enforcement to coax him out.

SWAT Team Called In; Montana Man Facing Three Separate Charges Now

Columbia Falls PD requested help from the Northwest Montana Regional SWAT Team to assist with taking the man into custody:

The suspect eventually emerged from the home and confronted SWAT Team members. The suspect refused to follow commands and was subsequently taken into custody by the use of less lethal munitions and a canine.

The suspect received minor injuries and was treated at the local hospital.  Police have not released the name of the suspect or those who were assaulted.  The man is charged with Assault with a Weapon (2 Counts) and Resisting Arrest; he is being held at the Flathead County Detention Center until his hearing.
