
Travelling Home in Montana to Find Your Holiday Spirit
In the past I have made the statement that I am more of a "glass is half-full" vs. a "glass is half empty" type of guy. But in a reflection of what the year of 2025 has brought with it, my ability to stay positive has been tested more than I care to admit.
And as the holidays have approached, I'll admit that the tendency to be a grinch rather than happy elf has crept in and pretty much taken over. But, after a short trip to my hometown of Geyser, Montana recently, I think my glass may once again be filling back up.

I try to get back to my hometown when I can, but the road to my parent's home doesn't really go through the small town of Geyser. But lately, I have been traveling through the town I grew up in. And boy, has it changed over the 40 years since I walked across the school stage to accept my diploma.

Sure, there isn't the gas station, grocery store or elevator anymore. And now only one bar graces the main street compared to the two back in the day. While those changes are certainly noticeable, it was some smaller things that caught my eye. And helped to get me back to enjoying the festiveness of the holiday season.
Small Decorations - Not Just at the Holidays in Small Town Montana
Traveling the main street in the town of Geyser, it was a pleasant surprise to see holiday decorations sprouting up from various planters and the few remaining businesses. Snowmen, trees decorated, even lights strung in some areas lighting the evening.

The holidays can bring about a plethora of mixed emotions, both good and bad. But sometimes getting back to your roots and remembering that even just a smile and friendly snowman on your porch can help someone struggling can help you just as much.
