Military Holidays – Do You Know the Difference in Them?

The Memorial Weekend holiday comes at a unique time, especially in Montana.  The kickoff to summer arriving beckons residents who have been cooped up over the long, cold wintery weather to seek the sun and enjoying being outdoors.

Military Holidays - Do You Know the Difference in Them?

The Memorial Holiday can sometimes be confused with other military holidays, and vice versa.  Keeping Memorial, Armed Forces and Veterans Day's separated can become a tad confusing, even with their names.

This weekend, and always on the final Monday of the month of May, we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country.  We memorialize those who allow us to continue to enjoy all the freedoms in our country, each and every day.

Armed Forces Day Also Celebrated in May; November for Veterans Day

Armed Forces Day, celebrated in May on the 3rd Saturday of the month each year, helps to honor those who are currently serving.  The day is to give thanks to those at our military bases at home in America, and those serving abroad in other countries.

In November, and always on the 11th day of the month, Veterans Day is celebrated across the U.S. and in Montana.  The day is not just a remembrance of the ending in the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month for World War I, but also to honor all have served proudly in any branch of the military.  It coincides with other world celebrations, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day.
