I am going to willingly admit that I don't check my mail that often.  I mean, I get it from the mailbox and throw it down on the kitchen counter, but I really don't look at it.  Most of the time, it is fliers for something that I probably could care less about.

That is until I see something with a "pay to the order of" stamped on the windowed part of the letter stuffed inside the envelope.  Did you receive one of these recently from a local banking establishment?  If you did, don't rush out to cash it.

Did ou Receive a Check from this Great Falls Credit Union?

Montana Credit Union in Great Falls, Montana recently released a statement regarding fliers that appeared to be directly from the credit union itself.  However, those fliers are not being sent by the credit union and instead are from a third party.

Through social media, the credit union in Great Falls said that the mailers did not originate with them.  They also wanted to reassure members that the credit union has not been compromised in any way.  In the statement, they said "these solicitations are being sent by a third-party using information obtained from public records, such as recorded real estate loans."

That Check Isn't a Sudden Financial Windfall, So Don't Spend It or Cash It

Montana Credit Union also said that while the mailers may appear to be an official document, the company issuing them isn't affiliated with them.  The credit union advised members or anyone receiving the solicitations that:

there is no action needed on your part. However, we always recommend reviewing unsolicited mail carefully and avoiding sharing personal information with unknown parties.

The credit union also emphasized that the "check" that you may have received is not valid and should not be used.  If you have further questions regarding the fliers, you can reach Montana Credit Union at 406-727-2210.
