True Life Seinfeld Episode Playing Out in Great Falls Right Now
As someone who heads to work at an ungodly hour of the morning, I see some things that might not even be a blip on a daytime radar. But in the dark? All bets are off.
Within the last couple of months, there has been a particularly aggravating annoyance that has popped up on my drive to work. But hear me out first, this isn't a complaint, just more of an observation about a new addition to a local business, with a little tongue in cheek poking of fun at their new sign.

My mind immediately went to the two houses that reside across the alley to the north and the home across the street. And then went immediately to Seinfeld. Anyone remember the "Kenny Roger's Chicken" episode?
Yep, exactly. The constant flashing has to be annoying, to say the least.
Here is What the Great Falls City Code Has to Say About Signs and Lights
I want to state again that I'm not mad about the sign. The current business in the building has made wonderful improvements to the building over the last year or so. Including the signage. But man, somebody turned that thing to eleven!
I even stopped in and spoke with the great folks at the City Planning and Development Office at the Civic Center to check about brightness levels for signs. It gave me pause for another laughing episode:
"Signs may be illuminated to a maximum standard lighting of 5.0-foot candles measured at the property lines".
We still measure stuff in the 21st Century in "candle power" in our codes?
Someone needs to get Ben Franklin on the horn; we need a reading on these lights please.
