My Tires Aren't Impressed with Our New Montana Weather

Have you ever noticed on some types of cars and their tires that they may have a different type of cap on the valve stem?  Do you know what it signifies?

It means that the tires are filled with nitrogen rather than regular compressed air.  And there are really reasons behind using it rather than just air.  But at this point, my car is not enjoying the ever-changing weather of Montana.

My car has those nitrogen filled tires.  And through the summer, I never had a problem with maintaining proper air pressure.  But once the temps started fluctuating these last few months, they have rebelled into constantly complaining they are low.

I filled them just two weeks ago and now my sensors are saying they are low again.  I thought nitrogen was supposed to keep tires inflated better than regular air does.  I mean, it's why airplanes use the stuff!

Many applications tout the benefits of nitrogen in tires.  Race cars of Indy or F1 have used it for years.  Military and commercial aircraft use it.  Even large equipment.  But the laws of physics still apply.
