Scams From a Popular Charity Could Mean Trouble for Montana

Getting a bad deal, no matter the circumstances, is never fun.  Being taken for a fool just doesn't sit well with anyone.

It hurts even worse when it comes to a charity that you believe in.  Criminals understand this and will play to those emotions as often as they can.  They know that tugging at your heart strings will make you part with some of your hard-earned money, probably without asking any questions.

It may just be time to get out the tinfoil hat to ward off some of what is sure to be coming in this month of October.

Think Pink Scams Are the Rage Through This Month, Be Alert and Cautious

In case you missed the memo, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and many events will be taking place across our state, both in person and online.

One of the other events that go along with this charity is that of scams.  Big scams.  The Think Pink scams.

Just Because It Has a Ribbon on It, Doesn't Mean a Thing

The Better Business Bureau calls the scam "pink washing" and it means criminals and scam artists are all about the pink products.  While you may think you are helping a worthy cause with that attached, many time the money doesn't go to any type of charity or any type of breast cancer research.

According to the BBB:

we want people to keep in mind that there's no one that regulates the use of the pink ribbon.  Just seeing the pink ribbon alone does not mean the organization or company displaying it will donate and support those organizations

Be alert when donating.  Doing your research for each donation is a must.  Find where those companies are located, are they even real?
