Montana Homeowners: Better Check Your Ladder for Safety
A new recall by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) involves a rather odd sort of equipment that normally doesn't seem to be affected like the plethora of other products.
Sure, cars and trucks, there have been many a food recall or even toys have all been bitten by the recall bug it seems. But this new one has "reached new heights" if you will. Werner ladders are the latest item to see faulty manufacturing leading to accidents.

Montana Homeowners: Better Check Your Ladder for Safety
As a homeowner myself, I would say I am handy and a man, but not necessarily a "handyman" of amazing skill. As such, there are things that fall through the cracks that should be taken care of.
Case in point and exhibit 1A - pointed out very loudly by wife I might add:
Ok. Ok. I admit that a weed growing from one of the gutters is bad. And a little embarrassing as well.

Cleaning the gutters is a horrible job. But it has to be done and generally will require a ladder to do so. But hold on if you recently purchased one at a local Home Depot store, or online from the company. It may be faulty and not fully lock into place, posing a fall hazard.
CPSC and Werner Ladder Company Issue Recall for Two Specific Models
The Werner 20’ and 24’ Multi-Max Pro multi-purpose ladder are the affected faulty models being recalled. The issue involves the ladders’ locking mechanism. It can jam and not fully lock into place, posing a fall hazard.
In a further description of the ladder, the CPSC stated that:
the ladders were sold in silver with a blue top and a blue label on the side rail. The label includes an oval containing the word “Werner” next to the words “MULTI MAX PRO” along with the size and model number ALMP-20IAA or ALMP-24IAA. The ladders also have a long black rope in the back section.
So far there have been "18 reports of falls, including 14 reports of injuries resulting in bruising, lacerations, head injuries and fractures to the wrist, leg and ribs". The ladders in question were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and online at HomeDepot.com from November 2021 through February 2024.

Here's How to Request a Refund on Your Werner Ladder
If you have purchased one of the models in question, consumers should stop using it immediately. You can request a full refund of your purchase price on the ladder using the following steps:
- register at http://www.wernerco.com/recalls
- wait to receive details on how to dispose of the recalled ladder
- after disposal is complete, Werner will issue a full refund in the form of a check
