That's what retailers have been saying since the Covid pandemic gripped the world in 2020. Remember the videos of the "smash and grabs" that were going on in retailers across the country? It's why so many things, like deodorant and make-up, are locked away from the public.

As shoppers are annoyed by locked displays and will sometimes go elsewhere to get locked products, it is helping to hamper shoplifting. But, consumers are vocal about not wanting to flag down someone for personal items like deodorant. Consumers also complain about not being able to properly compare items that are locked out of reach.

Target Takes Punishment For Shoplifting To A Whole New Level

According to reporting from CNN, get caught shoplifting at a Montana Target, or any Target in America for that matter, and Target may ban you for life. And it's totally within their rights. You will be told you're not allowed in a Target store again, and if you go into a Target store ANYWHERE you can be charged with trespassing.

The other thing that Target does, they'll let you shoplift, keep track of it, and then press charges for shoplifting once you reach felony status for theft. In Montana, that is $1,500. You really don't want to steal from Target. (And now days, who thinks they're REALLY getting away with it? Get a hold of yourself. There are cameras and such everywhere.)

What's the difference between misdemeanor shoplifting and felony shoplifting? According to Daily Dot, a misdemeanor usually comes with a fine and maybe time in a county jail. A felony could cost you time in a state prison and your right to vote.
