I Love Small Montana Towns

There's a lot to love about a small town. The people, the scenery, the down-home goodness that comes from living and working with the same people from birth to death. I know it sounds a little hokey, but it's a lot cool.

One of the main staples of any small town, 700 people or more, is a great home-town restaurant. Conrad, Montana has the Home Cafe.

You Know You're From Conrad When... Here's What The Locals Are Saying

The Home Cafe Opened in 1958

I don't know the owners really well, but what I do know of Scott and Pam Arvidson is that they are a staple on the highline. The meals and jobs created by this family can't be counted.

You can pop on in to the Home Cafe every day but Sunday between 6am and 2pm for some of the best food you've ever eaten and a great cup of coffee. A lot of folks rave about the cinnamon rolls, and I think Turkey Tuesday will be talked about for decades to come.

The Home Cafe Will Close Forever On September 28, 2024

I actually teared up a little typing those words. It's such a loss for Conrad, the highline and Pondera County.

I know the Arvidsons looked to sell the cafe, with no luck. It's UNBELIEVABLE to me this restaurant didn't sell in less than a week.

In A Town With 4 Sit-Down Restaurants, It Hurts To Lose One

In Conrad, you have The Home Cafe, The Branding Iron, The Keg, and Coaches Corner. They're not all open all hours, or even all days. Losing the main breakfast and cuppa coffee gathering spot is harsh.

There are a couple of other places you can get food: there's a GREAT coffee shop called Folklore, there's a Subway in the Town Pump and Mountain View Co-op has some food available as well.

Best Of Luck To The Arvidsons, Conrad Will Miss You

Anyone headed to Conrad by Saturday? I'd really love one last big chef salad with one of Pam's home-made rolls, or their insanely yummy taco salad. I'd be forever in your debt.
