Coming out of the holiday season in Montana there where a lot of reasons to celebrate. There were get togethers with family, friends and co-workers. When the holiday season comes to an end it can be a time for people to consider taking part in "Dry January". That is when people take a month off drinking any alcohol.

Griz In the Playoffs May Have Made "Dry January" Even More Difficult For Some

This year "Dry January" may have been extra difficult for some with the Montana Grizzlies Football team competing in the FCS National Championship game in January. I am sure there may have been a few people on that following Monday that may have regretted the partying that can go along with a game of that magnitude.

Montanans May Drink To Excess More Than Most

According to a report, Montanans not only like to drink, but may do so in excess to the point of being "hungover" more than most. Montana is ranked as one of the top states that is the "Most Hungover". Not only do we rank in the top 5, but we come in at number 2 for the most "hungover" state. This according to Bet Kentucky.

Where Montana Ranks In Hangovers

The report took a look at Google searches for "hangover/hangover remedies", the percent of people who have admitted to "binge drinking", the amount of bars, liquor stores, and more per 100,000 people. After crunching the numbers from multiple categories, the top 5 most "hungover" states are:

  1. North Dakota
  2. Montana
  3. South Dakota
  4. Vermont
  5. New Hampshire

The lest "hungover" states according to the stats are:

  1. Alabama
  2. Maryland
  3. Utah
  4. Virginia
  5. Kentucky

There has been a story making the rounds since 2020, that the term "hungover" comes from drunken sailors that would sleep on ropes if they were too drunk to stand. According to Snopes.com this is false. One thing that will guarantee no hangovers, is if you happen to partake in a "Dry January". If that isn't your style and you are going to party, please do so responsibly and as always designate a sober driver.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
