This is possibly the most realistic castle house in Montana.

Imagine your surprise if you came around the river bend on a raft and saw this wild home. Located on the Bitterroot River near Darby, the amazing structure seems oddly out of place, yet 100% intriguing. Somehow, we missed the news when the castle hit the market again in 2021. At the time, it was listed for $880,000.

There are a handful of well-known "castle" houses in Montana.

One of the most notorious is the monstrosity on Billings' West End. You may have heard about the castle built for a horse by one of Montana's copper barons back in the day, and there is a castle house near Great Falls that was sold a few years ago (below).

The Great Falls castle also has an airplane hangar and private airstrip.

The Darby Castle is one-of-a-kind.

Modest in size (at 2,919 square feet) the 3 bed/2 bath home more than compensates with realistic details throughout.

Constructed in 1992, we'd love to know more about the background of this truly unique property. Who built it, and why? Other than the obvious cool factor of living in a real-life castle? It was listed on and off beginning in 2019 and was purchased in September 2021. You can see more photos of the not-currently-for-sale castle HERE.
